Summer Solstice revellers asked to travel to Stonehenge by bus
Salisbury Reds will once again by running a special service
People wanting to attend this year's Summer Solstice at Stonehenge are being encouraged by English Heritage to travel by bus.
Parking is always at a premium for the longest day sunrise, but road closures and diversion routes are likely to make journeys for the pilgrimage a little more difficult than normal.
The Solstice falls in the early hours of Friday 21st June this year, with special bus services being put on by Salisbury Reds from the Thursday evening (20th June).
The monument field is open throughout the night for revellers to see out the sunset and welcome the beginning of Midsummer Day.
Salisbury Reds general manager, Andrew Sherrington said:
“We know how important it is for many people to be at Stonehenge for Summer Solstice, and we are expecting traffic to be particularly heavy around the site.
“Our 333 services will be running from Salisbury throughout Thursday evening from 6.30pm right up until 1.00am on Friday morning. Then we’ll start to take people back from 4.00am until 10.00am - with stops along the way.
“Working closely with English Heritage, we already provide a Stonehenge Tour service to the location - for anyone wishing to leave their cars behind. But Summer Solstice is an extraordinary event that draws many visitors throughout the night each year.
“The aim is to make it as easy as possible for people to come and experience the extraordinary atmosphere here - without having to worry about how they will get home.
“Tickets for the 333 service can be purchased directly from the driver - or be booked in advance via our app, making it easy to ensure a smooth journey to-and-from Stonehenge for this unforgettable experience.”
The service leaves New Canal, stopping at Salisbury train station and Amesbury Centre along the way, before arriving at Stonehenge.
