Stourhead named one of the most peaceful National Trust sites in the UK
The Wiltshire site's ranked highly in a survey based on visitor reviews
Wiltshire has been revealed to host one of the top ten most crowd-free National Trust estates in the UK according to a visitor review survey.
According to the survey, which analysed thousands of visitor reviews from the past year, Stourhead features incredibly well in the list with its beautiful hills, water and classical architecture surrounded by a magical collection of trees and shrubs.
Using visitorship figures from 2020/2021, researchers identified the 50 most popular National Trust properties and analysed TripAdvisor reviews for mentions of words relating to quietness.
Some of the words that was analysed as part of their research included words such as quiet, peaceful, relaxing and tranquil. The results were then determined as a percentage of the overall reviews to find a proportional representation for each property.
The findings showed that Winkworth Arboretum in Surrey is at the top of the standings with a total of 23.5% of the review; Claremont Garden also in Surrey was closely in second with 21.16%; with Rowallane Garden in County Down in third with 20.14%.
Hampshire's Mottisfont came in 6th place with 10.81% and Stourhead was 8th highest with 10.55%.
These figures are now relevant as ever as there are lots of visits to National Trust properties during Bank Holiday weekends.
Last winter also saw record numbers of membership to the National Trust, with a new member joining every 23 seconds in October and November. This has pushed up footfall on many of the estates, meaning crowds are more likely.
