An intrepid group of Stars Appeal supporters have completed their trek to the ancient city of Petra in Jordan.

35 people have spent a week walking across the desert, to raise money for the charity at Salisbury District Hospital.

The conditions under foot made for plenty of blisters and sore knees amongst the team!

They've battled intense, and difficult and varied terrain to reach their end goal.

One of the trekkers, Robbie Newton from Durrington posted an update on social media:

The journey to Petra has been a huge one for the trekkers, with the trip delayed for a year due to Covid restrictions.

We'll find out how much the team have collectively raised for the Stars Appeal at a celebration event next month.

The charity's heaped praise on their supporters:

All the money raised will go towards projects across Salisbury District Hospital over and above what the NHS can do.

Examples include providing the free Wi-Fi around the site, the parents' accommodation to support those with babies in the neonatal intensive care unit, new kit and equipment for the Breast Cancer Unit, children's ward and MRI scanners, and even the water fountains for staff, patients and visitors.

The trekkers take a quick rest during a day of walking through the desert
