A man has celebrated his 50th birthday by supporting Stars Appeal, the charity for Salisbury District Hospital.

Darren Culley skydived 15,000ft and raised £1,330 in August this year, on behalf of the Neonatal Unit Fund.

The unit cares for babies that have been born unwell, are too small or are premature, meaning they require additional care.

And through the support of people like Darren, the unit is now able to provide more mum and baby rooms.

The unit now as six mother and baby rooms, along with four larger en-suite rooms families can use and a playroom for siblings.

The unit cares for around 250 babies each year, with one Facebook commenter on the Stars Appeal post saying the rooms were ‘so important’ when her daughter was in the NICU.

She added: “It's such an overwhelming and exhausting experience so to have these rooms where you can rest and be close to your baby is just amazing.”
