Schoolgirl raises hundreds for Stars Appeal as thank you for treatment
Charlotte Scommell was inspired by the care she received last year
A schoolgirl has raised hundreds of pounds for Sarum Children’s Unit at Salisbury District Hospital as a thank you for the care she received at the unit.
Nine-year-old Charlotte Scommel suffered a ruptured appendix in January 2022 and had to have emergency surgery, spending four days on the children’s ward.
The care she received inspired Charlotte’s fundraising efforts, raising £559 last year by taking part in the Walk for Wards with her family.
In February this year, instead of birthday presents, Charlotte asked for donations which raised another £193.
And with her sights set on reaching the £1,000 mark, Charlotte achieved it with an Easter Hamper raffle.
She said it was “really good” to be able to raise this money and a way to say thank you to the staff that cared for her.
Donations like Charlotte's are used to enhance the child-friendly environment with furnishings, décor and artwork, provide new equipment, multisensory toys, along with free accommodation for parents, including a dedicated parents’ flat and pull-down beds so parents can stay by their child’s side.
