The winners of the Stars Appeal's Christmas Raffle have been revealed by the charity.

Nigel Ellis, from Potterne, won the top prize of £1,000; Richard Langdon, of Barford St Martin, received the second prize of £500; while the £250 third prize went to Maria Francillia from Salisbury.

Five other supporters also received prizes of £50.

This time around, ticket sales for the draw were made online only, to allow as many supporters as possible to take part.

It's raised £10,000 for the Stars Appeal.

All the money raised going to the charity's work at Salisbury District Hospital.

Top prize winner Nigel, who has supported the charity by taking part in a number of the Stars Appeal’s Walk for Wards events over the years, was delighted with his win:

“I feel overwhelmed. I support the Stars Appeal because Salisbury Hospital is my hospital. I feel very good about winning. It is the first time I’ve won anything. I always support the Stars Appeal in various ways.”

Third prize winner, Maria, 42, who is an administration assistant at Salisbury Hospital’s Britford and Downton Wards, added:

“It was just a really lovely surprise.”

Nigel, Richard and Maria have picked up their winning cheques from the Stars Appeal this week

The Stars Appeal has set itself a target of raising £1 million this year - towards projects including a new echocardiogram and scalp cooling units for chemotherapy patients, as well as ongoing services like the hospital's Wi-Fi, chaplaincy and accommodation for families using the neonatal intensive care unit.

Stars Appeal volunteer fundraiser, Jo Maslen said:

“Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to everyone who bought tickets and made donations. The money raised from the Christmas Raffle will go towards our £1million target to help fund projects that make such a difference to patients, their families and staff at the Hospital.”
