The Stars Appeal's annual Christmas Raffle has added £20,000 to the charity's pot, to provide services and equipment at Salisbury District Hospital.

The charity sold tickets in the run-up to the festive season, with the winners now being drawn.

The first three have got cash prizes of £1,000, £500 and £250, with a range of other prizes also given out to ticket holders picked out of the hat.

First prize winner Deborah Holton said:

"I'm delighted. It's January and money is usually a bit tight so it couldn't be more welcome. It's incredible, I still can't believe it."

All the money raised goes into kit and provision at Salisbury District Hospital, over and above what the NHS is able to do.

Over the last year, the Stars Appeal has funded:

  • CTG baby heart monitors and a 3D ultrasound machine
  • A £50,000 additional endobronchial ultrasound scope for the Respiratory Department to help diagnose patients with lung cancer and other related conditions
  • Accommodation for parents of babies and children in hospital
  • Free Wi-Fi around the hospital site
  • Support for cancer patients, the children's unit and wellbeing sessions for staff

The charity needs to bring in £1 million a year to keep their projects going and improve facilities around the hospital site.

The Christmas Raffle was sponsored once again by FJ Chalke of Mere.
