Stars Appeal challenges Salisbury riders to cycle to Eiffel Tower
The charity aims to raise £1 million over the next year
A Salisbury charity is challenging the city's cyclists to take part in a sponsored bike ride from the Hospital to the Eiffel Tower in 2025.
The Stars Appeal has laid down the gauntlet to the keen cyclists in the city as part of it's mission to raise £1 million for Salisbury District Hospital.
The Pedal for the Stars challenge takes place in September and commemorates the Hospital's connection to the Armed Forces.
The 250-mile route will pass sites in France linked to the Normandy Landings and D-Day before arriving at the iconic tower on the River Seine.
People interested in taking part can find out more at an information evening on Monday 20th January.
202\5 will also mark the 20th Walk for Wards event in July, with a new 15km route exploring the grounds of Wilton House.
Last year saw more than 2,000 people take part.
Before Walk for Wards, there's a chance to take on the highest mountain in Wales, with a night time trek up Snowdon in June.
The cash raised for the charity will help fund current and future projects at the Hospital, as well as the Stars Appeal Wi-Fi, hospital chaplaincy, support for patients with cancer and the Stars Appeal Play Assistant on Sarum Children’s Ward.
Chair of the Stars Appeal Ambassadors, consultant surgeon Mr Graham Branagan, who completed a cycling challenge for the charity, said, “Getting out of your comfort zone really inspires supporters to sponsor you. Training for your adventure is a brilliant way to get fit and connect with friends and colleagues. And the team spirit on these organised challenges is so supportive. What better way to support our hospital charity than by challenging yourself to do something different?”
More information on getting involved can be found on the Stars Appeal website.
