Salisbury's Sprinkles Gelato has been given the lowest possible rating for food hygiene - zero meaning urgent improvement is necessary.

The ice-cream parlour in New Canal was visited by an inspector from Wiltshire Council's Food and Safety Team on July 16th.

The inspector looked at things like the handling of food and food safety along with the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building.

Sprinkles was also given a zero rating in May 2019 before closing suddenly in January 2020.

It reopened seven months later under new management.

In a statement Simon Jacobs, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Public Protection, said:

“Sprinkles in Salisbury has had a poor compliance history. Officers from our Food and Safety Team engaged in enforcement action with the former operators of this business, but the business was dissolved before the enforcement action could proceed. "

“Our unannounced inspection on 16 July 2021 of the business under new ownership has revealed further failures in food safety management, as reflected in the current food hygiene rating.

REASSURANCE

Mr Jacobs says officers have been working hard to ensure issues raised have been rectified.

"Although the rating cannot be adjusted after the subsequent follow up visits we have made since July, standards are much improved. No application from the business operators for a re-rating has been received to date"
