Speeding offences in Wiltshire rise by 10% in a year
But Hampshire saw a 10% fall in 2022
More than a thousand people were convicted of speeding offences in Wiltshire in 2022.
Figures from insurance provider Churchill found convictions had reached an eight-year high, as Wiltshire saw a 10% rise and Hampshire a 10% reduction.
Nicholas Mantel, Head of Churchill motor insurance, said:
“Speeding is one of the main causes of road accidents and our research suggests that the problem is getting worse. Many drivers accidentally creep above the limit rather than speeding deliberately. While most people receive a fixed penalty notice for speeding, more serious or contested cases end up in court.”
In Wiltshire, 2022 saw 1,064 convictions, compared to 963 in 2021.
Hampshire saw the 2021 figure of 3,244 fall to 2,930.
The study found that three in four offences were by men, and 51% of drivers convicted were aged between 30 and 50 years old.
The minimum penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and three penalty points added to your licence.
