Southern Water's hosepipe ban: Is it helping?

The restriction was introduced on 5th August

Three weeks on since the start of the hosepipe ban for much of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Southern Water says it's already making a big difference.

The company saw an 8% drop in demand last week.

That's enough to fill 12,000 tanker trucks.

As we experience one of the driest years on record, Southern Water introduced a hosepipe ban for its customers in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight on Friday 5th August 2022.

It's the first time the restriction has been imposed in 10 years.

The aim is to protect levels in both the River Test and River Itchen, which are 25% down on where they should be.
