South Wiltshire flood warnings still in force, despite lack of rain
A number of alerts still remain from the Environment Agency
Despite a long spell of dry but chilly weather in South Wiltshire and West Hampshire over the last week or so, there's still a risk of flooding in some areas.
The Environment Agency (EA) is keeping some warnings in place for now - with some less serious alerts as well.
But in other areas, the threat of flooding seems to have gone away altogether, with warnings cancelled.
Flood warnings
The biggest risk to our communities is from groundwater flooding, according to EA.
They've said flooding is still 'expected' in places including:
- The Ebble Valley - from groundwater around Berwick St John, Ebblesbourne Wake, Bowerchalke, Broad Chalke, Stoke Farthing, Bishopstone, Stratford Toney, Coombe Bissett, Homington, Odstock and Nunton
- Groundwater flooding in the Till area - at Tilshead, Orcheston, Shrewton, Winterborne Stoke, Berwick St James and Stapleford
- Around Wilton from groundwater in the Wylye Valley
- The Bourne Valley - in the Collingbournes and Winterbournes
Flood alerts
Less important flood alerts remain in place for a few local areas - they warn that water damage is 'possible' but not an immediate threat.
They're in force for areas like:
- The Cranbourne Chase area - Bishopstone, Bourton, Breamore, Britford, Broad Chalke, Burgate, Chilmark, Coombe Bissett, Downton, Farnham, Fordingbridge, Hinton St. Mary, Homington, Mere, Pimperne, Ringwood, Rockbourne, Shapwick, Sixpenny Handley, Tarrant Gunville, Tarrant Hinton and Tarrant Monkton
- Salisbury Plain - including Boscombe, Cholderton, Collingbourne Ducis, Hanging Langford, Hindon, Hurdcott, Idmiston, Newton Tony, Orcheston, Porton, Salisbury, Shipton Bellinger, Shrewton, Stratford Sub Castle, Tidworth, Tilshead, Tisbury, Wilton, Winterbourne Stoke and the Woodfords
- The River Avon between Salisbury and Ringwood
- The River Bourne and tributaries around Laverstock
- The Wallops - from the river running through the villages
Flood warnings removed
But in the last 24 hours, some areas of South Wiltshire and West Hampshire have had their alerts removed completely.
The Environment Agency suggests there's no longer a risk of flooding in:
- The wider Wylye Valley - south of Warminster to Wilton
- Allen Vale at Sixpenny Handley
- Cranborne Chase at Damerham, Martin and Rockbourne
- The South Wiltshire Downs at Chilmark and Teffont
