A holiday activity programme, for South Wiltshire families eligible for free school meals, will be held again during the Easter holidays.

Wiltshire Council runs the FUEL camp at Amesbury Sports Centre and at Sarum Academy in Salisbury, during school breaks.

The camp ensures children get a nutritious lunch each day, while also getting the chance to try out various physical, practical and hands on activities, as well as workshops on nutrition and healthy living.

That'll include things like robotics workshops, circus skills, sporting sessions, Olympic kit, talent shows, and arts and crafts workshops.

Children taking part in the FUEL camps can take part in a range of activities, and be fed a healthy lunch too

There's also a FUEL camp for children with special educational needs, at Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury.

Young people there can take part in dance, new age kurling, cricket and boccia amongst other activities.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:

“The FUEL programme supports the council’s key priorities of early intervention, improving social mobility, tackling inequalities, understanding communities and working together. The camps not only provide hot food, healthy eating advice and a range of activities but also supports the development of character and wellbeing of participants.

“I am delighted the FUEL programme is continuing in 2023 as it embodies the council’s support for our residents that are most in need, many of whom are experiencing pressure from the increasing cost of living.

“When I have visited FUEL camps it is always great to see the participants having fun, enjoying a tasty meal as well as making friends and being active.”

Families are now able to apply for a place on the Easter FUEL camps across Wiltshire.

Each of them will take place over four days, from Monday 3rd April until Thursday 6th April, between 10.00am and 2.00pm.

Applications will close on 22 March, with places limited and only families with children eligible for benefit related free school meals.
