Revealed: Where are South Wiltshire's Best Kept Villages?
The winners of an annual contest have been chosen
We now know where South Wiltshire's Best Kept Villages of 2024 are - with the winners chosen for the first round of a county competition.
The district winners have been chosen, to go forward to the next stage, against top areas in the rest of Wiltshire for an overall champion.
CPRE Wiltshire's Best Kept Village Competition puts entries under the microscope by an expert team of judges, who are looking for criteria including tidiness, cleanliness, presentation and village community spirit.
South Wiltshire's winners are:
LARGE VILLAGE - Alderbury
MEDIUM VILLAGE - Dinton
SMALL VILLAGE - West Dean
West Dean has also been announced as this year’s ‘Best Newcomer’ in the competition and gets a £150 cash prize, sponsored by Wiltshire Council's grounds maintenance contractor idverde.
Mike Manson, Project Manager for CPRE Wiltshire and the Best Kept Village Competition organiser, said:
“The judges’ reports clearly recorded that the parish councils and their volunteers had once again been hard at work. Every village received praise from the judges for most of the criteria being judged.
“We will have new names for the overall winners: none of the villages that have qualified for the second and final round have won at that level for at least 12 years."
Each winning village will receive a certificate and in July it will be judged against the similar sized villages in the other districts, to determine the best kept large, medium and small villages in Wiltshire.
The final results will be announced in August and on the 22nd September the presentations to the winners will be made in each of the villages.
