South Wiltshire projects supported by local area boards
They include Harnham's Underground Studios and Amesbury's Christ the King Church
Several projects have been support by the various Wiltshire Council area boards, ranging from peoples health, cost-of-living help and activities for young people.
The Underground Studios in Harnham, Wilton Men’s Shed, Seeds4Success at the Nadder Centre in Tisbury and the Catholic Church of Christ the King in Amesbury have all been supported.
Over the last 12 months, more than 100 young people have learnt or developed skills at The Underground Studios, with help from the Salisbury and South Wiltshire area board.
The project provides youth engagement and positive activities for young people between the ages of 13 and 19, as well as people up to 25 years old with SEND.
The studio is a collaborative space for creative projects and initiatives, primarily for young people in the area, but the also for the wider creative community.
Seeds4Success has also been engaging with young people, delivering new activities to people in Tisbury, aided by the South West Wiltshire area board.
Art therapy and trampolining are just two of the activities that have begun this year at the Nadder Centre, for children of secondary school age, with up to 30 children per week taking part in the activities, which are free of charge.
These new sessions have been developed asking for the views of young people to identify what they would like and need each week.
South West Wiltshire has been helping Wilton Men’s Shed, which is a fully equipped workshop that promotes social inclusion, skill-sharing, friendship and wellbeing.
The 21 members take on creative projects and offer a repair service for everyday items for people in the community, area board funding also allowing the shed to open three times a week.
And finally, an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) has been funded at the Church of Christ the King in Amesbury.
The Stonehenge area board gave £1,600 of community grants which, along with contributions from church members, local residents and merchants, allowed the AED and lockable cabinet to be installed.
