Do you think you could outrun the mileage a Salisbury ambulance does?

There is a chance for you to try with the South Western Ambulance Service's latest initiative.

The fundraiser, 'Go the Extra Mile - Outrun an Ambulance' is giving people a new way to beat lockdown blues and raise money for the NHS.

It is a virtual challenge for people to conquer the mileage an ambulance covers while responding to emergencies.

Complete the distance plus one mile over a period of time by walking, running or cycling.

Choose how far you want to go based on the mileage clocked up by a crew from an ambulance station in Salisbury, Devizes, Trowbridge, Chippenham, Swindon, Warminster, Bath and Marlborough.

Or attempt to out run the 90 mile average mileage of the featured ambulance stations.

Mike Anning, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) Operations Officer based in Trowbridge, said: "Our teams are running, walking and cycling hundreds of miles between them each week during May, June and July. It's been fantastic to see our colleagues getting stuck into the challenge after an extremely challenging year.

"We are also asking the public to consider getting behind their local ambulance colleagues by making a donation to the South Western Ambulance Charity to benefit our communities and improve the welfare of our colleagues and volunteers. We genuinely appreciate every single donation."
