A pair of Silver Spoons thought to be from the 15th century have sold at auction for £47,500 at Woolley and Wallis in Salisbury.
The spoons, which are believed to have once belonged to King Henry VII in the 1490s.
Silver specialist Rupert Slingsby explained what made the spoons so valuable:
“This pair of Apostle spoons are from a set of the earliest known with full London hallmarks and, as such, are exceptionally rare and desirable.
“This is also the first chance in about 70 years that collectors have had to get their hands on them, as they haven’t appeared on the market since the 1950s.”
A collection of 18 spoons, that may span a period of almost 300 years, sold at the Auction for a combined £129,000.
Some of that collection may have belonged to Mary II and William of Orange in the 1690’s.
