People living in the New Forest are being reminded to dispose of sharp objects safely.

It comes as the New Forest District Council (NFDC) have been finding knives and broken glass mistakenly put into refuse sacks.

They are advising that sharp objects should be separated from other waste, in secure wrapping or packaging, to avoid potential accidents.

Placing a warning label indicating the presence of a sharp object on a wrapping could also help avoid injuries.

Councillor Geoffrey Blunden, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability at NFDC said: “In recent weeks, our refuse collection teams have encountered instances where sharp objects, such as knives and broken glass, have been mistakenly placed in refuse sacks.”

He added: “These occurrences, although unintentional, pose significant risks to our staff members during the collection process and we are calling on our residents to ensure the safe disposal of sharp objects and help us maintain a secure working environment for our team.”
