The Stars Appeal has become the second local charity to be awarded a square on the Salisbury MONOPOLY board.

A public vote was created a few months ago to determine which charities were going to be given a space on the iconic board.

Now it has been announced that Salisbury District Hospital's charity will take a 'Community Chest' square after a "huge amount" of votes.

Chair of the Stars Appeal Ambassadors, Graham Branagan, said:

“We are delighted to be featuring in the new game and would like to thank everyone who voted for our Hospital charity.

Our inclusion will raise much needed awareness of the charity’s work helping patients and staff at the Hospital, both during this difficult time and beyond.”

There's one more charity space set to be announced, after Salisbury Hospice took the first one in July.

SALISBURY'S "TRENDIEST" LOCATION

It has also been revealed what will be taking the "Angel, Islington" square, which is considered to be the trendiest location.

Salisbury Museum will take up that space, and will be up for grabs for 100 MONOPOLY dollars.

George Shrimpton from the MONOPOLY said:

“Angel, Islington is the very trendiest location in the game so it’s a big congratulations to Salisbury Museum. Today in real-life Angel, Islington is, as everyone knows, chic and trendy. But when MONOPOLY was conceived, in the 1930s, Angel, Islington was considered far more modest, hence its position in the more affordable section of the board.”

Salisbury Museum is hosting part of the Hardy's Wessex displays, with other parts in Devizes, Poole and Dorchester

WHAT ELSE IS ON THE BOARD?

Last month it was confirmed Old Sarum will feature as Old Kent Road.

The full board hasn't been released yet thought after people were asked to recommend and vote for different locations but the makers of the game, Winning Moves UK, have revealed Salisbury Cathedral and Stonehenge polled well.

We have been told many of the Chance and Community Chest cards are Salisbury themed too.

One card will say: 'Oops. You accidentally spill your coffee over one of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta - Go To Jail and Do Not Pass GO'.

Another, very much in the spirit of 2020 compared to when MONOPOLY was invented in the 1930s, says: 'You want to buy some fresh veggies. Go to Charter Market. If you Pass GO, collect M200"

WHEN DOES THE BOARD GO SALE?

The game is officially released on on October 14th and hits the shops, like Waterstones and WHSmith, at 9am.

It'll also be available on Amazon.

A Winning Moves UK spokesperson said:

"We hope the game can go some way to lifting spirits in this most unprecedented of times.

Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge and Old Sarum each polled exceptionally well.

We would like to formally thank each and every person who sent in nominations. The game will be featuring the great and good of the city – and is, in effect, A Love Letter to Salisbury. We have been wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this edition together.”
