1,000 people visit Salisbury District Hospital's Open Day
The second ever behind-the-scenes event attracted more than last year
Around 1,000 people have taken a behind-the-scenes look at how Salisbury District Hospital operates, at their second ever Open Day.
The Odstock site allowed visitors into some little seen areas of their work for the event on Saturday 8th June.
Demonstrations and activities included the popular toy hospital - where children could care for their favourite teddy with help from nurses.
The high-tech simulation mannequins and the 'bones man' were also big draws, with other emergency services also taking part and giving tours of their vehicles.
Tours of the hospital site took visitors into the Pathology and Radiology departments and the new Imber Ward, which is due to open for elderly patients this summer.
There was also a chance to try a tasting menu from the on-site catering team, along with live music and even swimming lessons!
Interim Chief Executive Lisa Thomas said:
“We are so delighted that so many people from our community visited us and enjoyed a great day of fun and entertainment for the whole family with the wide range of activities going on all around our hospital.
"Our staff were very excited for the opportunity to show visitors what they do to provide quality care for our patients in creative and fun ways, which resulted in big smiles all around. There truly was something for everyone. And we had sunshine this year, which is always a plus!”
