Salisbury District Hospital hits gold in supporting staff cycling to work
The hospital's been improving it's cycle-to-work facilities
Salisbury District Hospital has set a gold standard as a cycle-friendly employer.
Cycling UK have handed out the accreditation as a result of the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust's efforts to create 'an inclusive and sustainable workplace, with exemplary cycle-friendly facilities.'
The Trust has been improving facilities for cyclists over the last 18 months. Cyclists have access to three secure shelters with 70 cycle-parking spaces, in addition to more than a hundred open spaces, most of which are covered.
To achieve the gold status, organisations must have the following facilities and services available to staff:
• Secure shelters for staff bikes
• Showers, changing rooms and lockers
• A pump and tools for quick repairs
• Special events such as free mechanic days and security marking
• Salary sacrifice bike purchase scheme
• Ebike loans to staff
• Supervised fitness training for beginners/returners
Ian Robinson, Head of Facilities and Sustainability Lead at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It is important to us to support our staff with low or zero carbon options, in their commute to work.
"Cycling for many is a great way to exercise and reduce or remove transport costs. It also supports reducing our carbon footprint and meeting our Green Plan objectives.
"The services and amenities we offer support our Trust’s goal to become a more environmentally sustainable organisation, to promote good air quality, and to help the NHS towards Net Zero.“
