One of Salisbury Cathedral's sculptures has headed off to Amsterdam to be shown in a special exhibition dedicated to its creator Barbara Hepworth.

Moving Construction (Crucifixion) which weighs 2.5 tons is no easy feat with a specialist team called in yesterday (11th April) for the task.

It was lifted from its current position from the grass in the Cathedral's Cloister over the Cloister wall into the Cathedral Works Yard, then taken by tractor and flatbed out the Close.

Art transportation specialists Mtec managed the removal.

The bronze sculpture is heading to the Rijksmuseum Gardens, Amsterdam, where it is to be shown in the ninth annual sculpture exhibition devoted to the British sculptor.

The statue will return to Salisbury Cathedral in the autumn after the exhibition finishes.

The sculpture, completed in 1966, is one of an edition of three, the other two are in the US.
