A Salisbury mum is doing her bit to ensure no student misses out on their prom because they can't afford an outfit

Vicki Jacobs is setting up a scheme which she's called Cinderella's Wardrobe to lend outfits free of charge to those in need.

She was moved to do something after a friend appealed for help on social media.

"It just made me really, really sad to think that not only my friend but other people are struggling to buy a prom dress, which is just so important for the teens. The same with a suit, suits are so expensive."

Vicki, set up a Facebook page, appealing for donations of dresses and has had an overwhelming response.

"I wasn't really expecting to have such a response, which has been amazing. Lots of people offering dresses, suits are starting to come in and I've just had my first tuxes donated. Boys are just as important as the girls."

Lara's Little Hat Shop in Firs Down donated a full rail of dress, which reduced Vicki to tears.

She's still looking for more outfits to make the scheme a success, particularly long evening dresses as well as accessories like bags and suits for boys.

You can drop dresses off at the following locations:

  • Oliver and Chandler Estate Agents, Salisbury
  • Toni and Guy, Salisbury
  • House of Mac, The Guild, Wilton

It's early days for the scheme which aims to be up and running properly by 2023 but Vicki has already had several requests for help.
