The People in the Park event planned to go ahead in Salisbury's Queen Elizabeth Gardens this weekend has been postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Salisbury Transition City, who are the organisers behind the event, say they came to the decision after consultation with Salisbury City Council.

They say they believe that Queen Elizabeth Gardens and its neighbours should be able to grieve in peace during the national mourning period.

Instead attentions will now turn to May 2023, when the community group, music and environmentally friendly event will return.

In a statement on the Salisbury Transition City Facebook page, the group said:

"After consulting with Salisbury City Council, we have taken the very difficult decision to postpone People In The Park 2022. We believe that Queen Elizabeth Gardens and its neighbours should be able to grieve in peace during the national mourning period. For those who were planning on coming to the event, we encourage you to spend the time with people you love, doing the things you love, together.

"We want to extend our sincere apologies to everyone who has put in a huge amount of time and effort into preparing for this amazing event! We were so excited to welcome you all to the park next weekend... we will be in touch with stall holders, speakers and performers over the next few days with more details and our new date in May 2022."
