Salisbury's MP John Glen has been talking ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion in Ukraine.

In his latest blog, he's said we have been 'fortunate to not only connect a large number of hosts and guests, but also provide training facilities for Ukrainian soldiers'.

The Salisbury Ukraine Hub has been supporting refugees coming to the city over the last year.

10,000 troops from Ukraine have already received basic training on Salisbury Plain, ahead of travelling to the frontline.

Another 20,000 are expected to go through training by the end of this year.

John Glen has also said he was sorry to have to miss President Zelenskyy’s historic visit to Parliament last week.

The President reminded everyone of the determination of the Ukrainian people and reaffirmed the unbreakable friendship between our two countries.

Salisbury's MP said:

"The UK provided £2.3 billion in military support to Ukraine in 2022, and our support for 2023 will equal or exceed this and include an expansion of our training assistance.

"This is part of a long-term multinational investment in Ukraine’s ability to deter and defend themselves against threats from Russia, which will also support wider European security objectives.

"As well as being a stalwart military ally, we must always remember the terrible human suffering caused by this illegal war.

"We have committed extensive humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

"We have also introduced the largest, most severe sanctions package against Russia ever imposed on a major economy.

"We have ended imports of Russian coal, oil, and gas to deprive Putin of funding for his war machine.

"And we are providing support to both international and domestic investigations into war crimes in Ukraine."
