'Zero Waste' store opens in Salisbury
Blueberry Den has already been running as pop-up shops and online
About 2 years ago, Celeste Skinner bought a little van so she could offer 'plastic-free' products to help other people, in and around Salisbury, reduce their waste.
She set-up refill stations for household essentials in a bid to help reduce our carbon footprint and took on-line orders, using an electric vehicle take many of the home deliveries.
Now her new 'zero waste' shop called Blueberry Den is opening today (Monday 16 August) on Winchester Street.
In her own words, owner and founder, Celeste, describes her excitement:
"After a few months looking for the right place, this came out of the blue and I can't wait to welcome you all at Blueberry Den in Winchester Street,"
BLUEBERRY DEN - ZERO WASTE SHOP SALISBURY
It'll be stocking and selling 'sustainable' toiletries and cleaning products with the aim of not using plastics or creating any waste.
36 year old Celeste had been holding pop-up shops at places like 36 Salisbury on the High Street, as well as The Phoenix Emporium at Wilton, as well as Stable & Wick in Downton, and has continued delivering online orders.
Celeste hopes that by opening the new shop in the city she will cut the carbon footprint she makes with doing lots of home deliveries.
She says she founded Blueberry Den
"...in an effort to reduce plastic pollution and food waste."
"I worked for a plant conservation charity for several years, where I learned to appreciate the beauty of simplicity, the power of nature and the importance of sustainability. I wanted a place that offered food cupboard essentials and eco-friendly cleaning products, from independent brands at competitive prices, delivered at home, so it was convenient for all."
"I strongly believe that zero-waste shopping must be affordable and convenient, interesting and easy so I created an online refill service delivered straight to your door and set up 6 different refill stations during 2020."
Blueberry Den currently stocks almost 200 products in its online shop. They're all sold without plastic packaging and can be bought in the quantities you need.
Back on 8th June Celeste posted on Facebook to say that:
"Today, not only I was lucky enough to deliver your orders, I also got to visit my customer Stonehenge Cottages in Lower Woodford. Since last year, they swapped all their cleaning products and toiletries for refillables, reducing their waste and their guests' to a minimum."
Celeste says that Blueberry Den is her commitment to the environment and hopes it will be yours too.
She is working with 3 independent food retailers in and near Salisbury, they are Stable & Wick at Downton, The Courtyard Marketplace at Wilton and The Gourmet Grocer at Fordingbridge.
