Around 150 of Salisbury's volunteers have come together for an event to recognise their efforts to keep the city 'safe, green, accessible and a place where everyone is welcomed and supported'.
Among the services across Salisbury City Council's remit that get support from volunteers are:
- The Parks Team, to keep public open spaces tidy and well planted
- The CCTV network across the city centre
- The Communities Team, running lunch clubs, sports sessions and youth events
- Shopmobility in The Maltings, helping people get around the city more easily
- Salisbury Pantry, the city's social supermarket, taking in food that would otherwise got to waste and redistributing it those who need it, cheaply
During the celebration, held on Wednesday 16th February, some long service awards were handed out to people who have given up their time to support the city over many years.
Sarah Gregson, who is the Communities Manager for Salisbury City Council, said:
“It is so important that we express our gratitude to our volunteers and we hope to give them an opportunity to understand that they are part of a community of volunteers. They all have different skills but are all a huge part of making Salisbury a great place to belong."
The Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Caroline Corbin said:
“Salisbury City Council is very fortunate to have such a dedicated band of volunteers contributing their time and energy across the city. I am delighted to be part of the Volunteer Celebration Event for them at the Guildhall."
