People travelling in Salisbury today are being encouraged to leave their cars at home.

The city's bus operator Salisbury Reds is offering half price travel to coincide with World Car Free Day, in a bid for people to use sustainable transport.

The aim is to ease congestion and improve air quality by promoting buses, cycling and walking to motorists as alternative methods of travel.

Andrew Wickham, Salisbury Reds managing director said: "At Salisbury Reds, we welcome any initiative designed to reduce the harmful effects exhaust emissions have on the environment,

“World Car Free Day ties in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve in the area. Buses provide the perfect and affordable solution to reducing air pollution, so we’re proud to have invested millions of pounds in improving the comfort and reliability of our services here."

People using the Salisbury Reds app will be able to download the special dayrider for unlimited travel in-and-around Salisbury.
