A Salisbury-based food poverty charity has told Greatest Hits Radio why it's rebranded itself.

Trussell - formerly known as the Trussell Trust - has been supporting families in Salisbury and across the UK for over two decades but says it's altered it's appearance to help make it easier for people to access support.

The charity's Sophie Carre told us that they took the decision refresh their look after heavy research.

"When we did that piece of research about who we are, understanding of who we are and what it was like to access support from one of our food banks, or via by the Trussell Trust online, we found out that it was actually quite difficult for people to access the right help," she said.

The research revealed to the organisation that their website was making it tricky for people to find the help that reflected their reality at the time.

It also found that the things such as fonts and colours used on digital platforms didn't meet accessibility standards.

Sophie added: "It's incredibly important for us to work with our food banks and work with people who really would be using the services to understand exactly how we need to present ourselves to really be accessible.

"We want to make sure anyone who needs to access report there are already so many barriers to accessing support and we want to make sure of people come to Trussell or one of our food banks, they can access the support they need."

The charity says it hopes the rebrand boosts awareness of the work it's doing and said awareness of it's work was 'lagging behind other charities'.

The charity said: "Less than half the public felt we were clear in explaining what we do, and only a third were aware of our campaigning and research work.

"Our vision is ambitious and it requires us all to play our part. Our refreshed brand helps to do this with three quarters of respondents saying they are more likely to support us following the updates."

The charity's mission hasn't changed, despite the rebranding.

"Whilst we look a little bit different and we've lost the the trust at the end of trust, we're still very much the same organisation at heart," Sophie said.

She continued: "We're still here to support local food banks like Salisbury, and we're still very much working towards ending the need for food banks."
