Salisbury's People in the Park is back!
The sustainable Salisbury event starts at 11am today (Sat 18 Sept)
After a successful launch last year, Salisbury Transition City, are holding another event in Queen Elizabeth Gardens, today (Saturday 18 Sept 2021),
Entry is free to 'People in the Park' and the event is supported by Salisbury City Council and Wiltshire Council. It will run from 11 am through to 7.30 pm with live music, entertainment, poetry and talks from a wide range of community, sustainability, and environmental groups.
All of this will be performed on and around their two eco- friendly powered stages.
Following the theme of sustainability, an electric car will power the main stage, as the stored energy has been supplied from sustainable energy sources, it is using a system called EV2Power that enables electric car batteries to be used as a replacement for fossil fuel generators. This allows electric cars to become clean and green, effective mobile power stations.
This year also features a newly introduced ‘youth stage’ which has been organised by an under 18 crew from Wiltshire College, that stage will be run by pedal power.
‘People in the Park’ will feature many opportunities to hear, learn and discuss community, environmental and sustainability issues. A notable key speaker, our own John Glen, will talking and then hosting a Q & A session.
The event will also give those active in community and environmental concerns the opportunity for networking and interacting with other activity groups and help generate even greater local synergy from all those working towards achieving and adopting sustainable lifestyles.
Bradley Thompson, co-director STC told Greatest Hits Radio Salisbury:
"'People in The Park’ is a direct ancestor of STC’s Sustainable Salisbury event that was held for several years in The City Centre and after the dark days of the second lockdown the event provides another opportunity for people to get together, catch up and share our visions of a brighter future for Salisbury.
"It was so brilliant last year and such a great way to say thank you to the community for all the amazing things that people were getting together to achieve, especially during such a difficult time. This year we wanted to come back bigger, better and even more fun than last time… and I think we have achieved that! We can’t wait to see you all there!”
There will be over 30 stalls from local and regional groups and independent retailers. Just a few of those include Salisbury Wildlife, Blueberry Den, Harnham Table, Salisbury & Wilton Swifts, Plant and Seed swap, Share Salisbury, and the popular Salisbury Repair Café. Salisbury City Council and Wiltshire Council will all be making an appearance.
