Plans to reopen Salisbury train station northern entrance
South Western Railway's allocated cash towards the idea
The northern entrance of Salisbury railway station could be reopened, after more than a decade being shut to passengers.
Cash has been allocated by South Western Railway towards 'designing' a reopening on the Windsor Road side.
The train operator's putting in £30,000 from their Customers and Communities Improvement Fund.
That's set to be match funded with £25,000 from Wiltshire Council.
The main entrance of Salisbury Railway Station is due for upgrades soon, as part of the Fisherton Gateway project.
£5.3 million of improvements are set to be made to boost accessibility, while putting in new landscaping, more bike parking and extra bus stops.
The South Western Railway Customers and Communities Improvement Fund is putting £1.5 million into 58 projects across the network.
Peter Williams, SWR’s Customer and Commercial Director said:
“At South Western Railway we are always looking for ways to support the local communities our network serves, and the Customer and Communities Improvement Fund plays a vital role in this by funding schemes that will provide very real benefits for people in towns and villages across our network.
“We’re delighted to help bring these projects to life and we look forward to seeing them completed and flourishing.”
Another project that's getting funding is with the Samaritans, with just over £35,000 allocated to help raise awareness and reduce suicide rates associated with the rail network.
