Gilbert's been a Community Champion, based at the Southampton Road Tesco Extra, for a number of years.

Their role is to be a link between the supermarket giant and local communities, supporting charities and voluntary organisations.

A video's been released on Tesco's Twitter feed, thanking Gilbert for his efforts:

The video features charities including Wilton's Riding for the Disabled, Salisbury Foodbank and the John McNeill Opportunity Centre, honouring the support that Gilbert's given them.

He's appeared emotional at getting the recognition, saying he's just pleased to do his bit:

"Being a Community Champion in Salisbury is helping hundreds of charities that need help and support. For me, I represent the community of Salisbury and I'll help with any charity that I can."
