Salisbury teen trio to walk from city to Ukraine
Kyle Spring, James McCarthy-Hill and Adam Mitchell are aiming to raise £10,000 to support aid efforts in the war-torn country
A group of teenagers from Salisbury are preparing to walk to Ukraine.
Kyle Spring, James McCarthy-Hill and Adam Mitchell will travel through Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland on their way to the war-torn nation.
The trio leave from the city centre on 29th June.
Kyle, who cycled to Ukraine last year, said he'd been inspired to help the devastated country after visiting with his dad.
"When I went out there and I saw sort of this situation for myself in person, it sort of changed something inside of me and I thought, I want to try and do a bit more for these guys because they're struggling," he told Greatest His Radio.
After cycling across Europe last year, Kyle decided to make it a walk this time around, which he had originally planned to do last year, before switching to the bike.
He's convinced college friends James and Adam to join him on this journey.
The trio are hoping to raise £10,000 which will go towards supporting hospitals and orphanages in Ukraine.
Kyle said they're going to be documenting the trip: "We're going to make daily videos, upload them and see if we can raise money, gain traction from there.
"Then when we get to Ukraine, we'll obviously distribute the aid out with help of some contacts we've got over there."
James told us he was inspired to join Kyle after seeing his classmate's journey last year.
"The videos that Kyle posted really resonated with me and I thought that's something I want to be involved with."
Adam said he wants to use his position of safety and privilege do give back to others in a difficult situation: "I think the fact that we have the option to even go and do something to help them, it's really quite a nice thing to do."
