The forecourt at Salisbury Railway Station will be closed to traffic from 8.00pm tonight (Friday 25th April), through until 4.00am on Tuesday (29th April).

Wiltshire Council's contractors have been carrying out resurfacing work there, as part of the ongoing improvement project.

It's the final phase of the £5.8 million works, which have been underway since summer 2024.

We're told staff will be on site 24 hours a day during the closure period to ensure it's completed on time.

The area in grey will be resurfaced as part of the works

There's no access for vehicles from South Western Road, but pedestrian access will be maintained.

Drop off and pick up points will temporarily be moved to the lower car park (nearer Churchfields Road), along with access to the Stonehenge Tour buses.

Vehicles will only be able to access the station from the Churchfields Road side.

Taxi bays will move to South Western Road temporarily.

The station’s cycle hub will remain accessible from Churchfields Road and Mill Road.

Temporary car park open

A new car park's been created at the former East Goods Yard site on Fisherton Street, for station users.

Four traffic marshals will be on duty from Friday 25th April to Tuesday 29th April, with three marshals stationed in the forecourt area and one on Churchfields Road.

Parvis Khansari, Corporate Director - Place at Wiltshire Council, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and disturbance caused by these works. This is anticipated to be the last time we will need to undertake 24 hour working during this project.

“We would like to thank in particular the residents of Churchfields Road for their patience and continued co-operation in delivering this important scheme for Salisbury.

“Once the Station Forecourt scheme is complete it will provide a more attractive, and welcoming environment for visitors and residents alike.”
