A Salisbury man has raised more than £2,000 for the intensive care unit at our District Hospital, to say thank you for the life-saving care he received.

Dave Hackett asked family, friends and business contacts for donations to his fundraising page for the Stars Appeal.

He's now handed over the cash to the Radnor Ward.

Dave handed over a cheque to staff on Radnor Ward at Salisbury District Hospital in return for the life-saving care he had there

Dave explains his story:

"My vital organs were being eaten away and I was diagnosed with Weil's Disease. I was in a coma for 6 days and was given a 10% chance of survival.

"The doctors, nurses and consultants were amazing in their care and attention to my recovery. During my time in hospital, I saw first hand how dedicated and hard-working the entire staff were. I cannot put into words how thankful I am to the whole team.

"Myself and my family will be forever grateful for their care and dedication, and for getting me back home again. "

Weil's Disease, or Leptospirosis, is a severe bacterial infection that can affect major organs very quickly.

Dave's been back to the ward where he was cared for at Salisbury District Hospital to meet with Dr Jenkins, Intensive Care Consultant Anaesthetist, and Sister Gemma Alcock.

The money raised will be used by Radnor Ward to purchase extras for their patients and to help make the experience on the ward better.
