Salisbury River Park 'progressing well' after delays
Wiltshire Council say a road bridge will reopen in the Spring
After some delays to Salisbury River Park project in recent weeks, we're told the work is now 'progressing well'.
Construction's been taking place along the River Avon, between the Central Car Park and Fisherton Recreation Ground since the summer.
It's all aimed at improving flood defences for 350 local homes and businesses, and our access to the local environment.
Wiltshire Council leader, Richard Clewer explains the latest work, in a video released by the authority:
Among the parts of the scheme to be completed soon is the reopening of the road bridge leading from Millstream coach park into the Central Car Park.
That's due to be ready for traffic in the Spring.
The project's faced some setbacks before Christmas, due to sewage leaking into the Avon, close to the Waitrose bridge.
Asbestos was also found at Fisherton Rec, as some excavation works were carried out - that's deemed to be low risk to the public.
The new flood defences have also meant some fish and water voles have been relocated further down the Avon.
Twenty voles were moved, and combined with fifty more from captivity to create a new colony.
The Environment Agency's given us an update on that work too:
