What do you think about Salisbury's River Park project?
A seven week consultation on the Masterplan has begun.
The Salisbury River Park project aims to reduce the risk of flooding in the city centre, and provide more riverside green space and wildlife habitats.
The first phase would focus on making improvements and flood prevention work in the Central Car Park area, Ashley Road green and at the Fisherton Recreation Ground.
We're now getting a chance to have out say on the details of this phase of the scheme, as well as the outline plans for the project as a whole.
This part of the Masterplan is being funded with £6 million from the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
HOW TO TAKE PART
The consultation runs until Friday 8th January 2021, and it's available on the Wiltshire Council website.
We can email it back to MajorProjects@wiltshire.gov.uk** or download a copy and post it in to Major Projects, Wiltshire Council, The Council House, Bourne Hill, Salisbury, SP1 3UZ.**
Two online public briefings are also planned to tell us more about the scheme, being held on:
Tuesday 24th November at 6.00pm
Tuesday 15th December at 2.00pm
Anyone can register to take part in those by clicking the links above - once you're registered, you'll be sent a Microsoft Teams link to the meeting.
If you want to ask a question in either of those sessions, you can email majorprojects@wiltshire.gov.uk stating 'Questions for Webinar' in the subject heading.
The briefings will also be recorded and will be available on the council's YouTube channel.
Philip Whitehead, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said:
"These proposals relate to the overarching framework for the Salisbury River Park initiative and the first phase of works which form part of an £18 million package of investment provided by the Environment Agency and Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership, to protect residents and businesses in Salisbury City Centre.
"It is really important everyone takes the opportunity have their say during the public consultation and help ensure the city is more protected and sustainable in the future."
Emma Baker, Wessex Area Director, Environment Agency, said:
"The Salisbury River Park project has real potential to be transformational and provide a lasting legacy for future generations, from reducing flood risk to improving green spaces. We are very excited about this project and are keen to hear what people think about the plans."
