Salisbury's buses and bus drivers are showing their support for the Royal British Legion by wearing poppies.

The poppy is a key symbol of the Remembrance period at this time of year.

The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion's annual fundraising initiative, starting in late October and running through to Armistice Day on 11 November.

“People across this city are rightly proud of our country’s military - as is the team here at Salisbury Reds,” said Salisbury Reds managing director, Andrew Wickham. “As part of this community, we are keen to show our support for all those in the services.

“We are providing all our drivers and other team members with a poppy to wear, if they wish to do so. For each of these, we will be making a donation to the Royal British Legion," he said..

Bus drivers will pull over, if safe to do so, at 11am on Sunday 10 November for Remembrance Sunday and at 11am on Monday 11 for Armistice Day, as a mark of respect to observe the two minutes’ silence.

The bus operator will also be offering free travel on both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day for UK Armed Forces veterans and those who are currently serving, in a bid to help them travel to events or visit family and friends.

All they need to do is display their medals or show their military ID card when boarding a bus.
