Salisbury disability support group gets funding from city's Reds
DIGS has got cash from the bus operator's Community Fund
A Salisbury group, set up to improve the lives of local people with disabilities, has got £500 from the city's bus operator towards their work.
Disability Interest Group of Salisbury, or DIGS, has been given cash from the Community Fund at Salisbury Reds.
It's going towards their 'playforeveryone' campaign, as chair Kez Adey explains:
“We set up the ‘playforeveryone’ initiative to ensure that parks and green spaces are accessible and have accessible equipment in all wards - to allow children to play locally, rather than parents having to transport them across the city.
“There are some lovely green areas locally, and ‘playforeveryone’ is designed to allow access to these locations, so everyone can enjoy the fresh air and boost their physical and mental health.
“Salisbury Reds is particularly responsive when it comes to making buses accessible for all - including those with wheelchairs - so we thought we would approach them to see if their community fund could provide some funding for our new project.
“We were delighted to receive £500, which will be put to very good use, and I’d like to thank Salisbury Reds for their generosity.”
Salisbury Reds general manager, Andrew Sherrington, said:
“Our community fund is designed to support local groups, schools, clubs and organisations that make a difference within areas where we operate - and DIGS is the perfect example of this.
“We are keen to help raise awareness of the excellent work that DIGS carries out, in terms of making local facilities accessible for all here in Salisbury, and we will also be continuing to work with their team on ensuring easy access for wheelchairs on our buses.”
