'Race For Men' cancelled in Salisbury
Organisers sorry to break the news again as a result of Covid-19
Last updated 12th Mar 2021
Salisbury's Race For Men Foundation, has announced this year's running event will not go ahead.
Despite a promise of lockdown easing in the coming weeks, it's been decided to cancel the 2021 event because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and uncertainty surrounding the safety of staging large events like Race For Men.
The event had several distances for runners to choose from: 10k - 21k Multi-Terrain routes, run/walk 3k Multi-Terrain route taking in stunning scenery around Old Sarum Castle.
SADNESS AND THANKS
On Facebook, organisers have thanked all of their amazing supporters and followers who've taken part in previous runs raising money for the Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal Prostate Cancer fund.
Even though the national vaccine roll-out is making huge progress and the government has a 'roadmap' for exiting lockdown, Race For Men says it's just not possible to go ahead this summer.
Race For Men organiser, Toby Giles, had pinned his hopes on being able to hold the event at Hudson's Field on 13 June 2021, and had even set his sights on reaching their 6 year target of raising £50k for prostate cancer. It was also set to be the first time Race For Men had been open to entries from male and female competitors.
Last year's event also fell victim to the pandemic, depsite valiant attempts to reshedule the date.
PANDEMIC DIFFICULTIES
Race For Men had also lost access to other things vital for the even't success such as the St John's Ambulance which is currently lending its support to the Covid-19 vaccination roll out.
Toby Giles and those behind the scenes at Race For Men are confident there will be some fantastic running events happening this year, and encourage you to still support the Stars Appeal. Race For Men promises to be back next summer, and has even set a date of Sunday 5 June 2022.
