But final plans for Fisherton Gateway and Station Forecourt haven't been revealed

Wiltshire Council say two major redevelopments for Salisbury are 'due to start on site soon'.

But we haven't been given the finalised plans for the Fisherton Gateway or Salisbury Station Forecourt plans as yet.

There's also no exact details of what 'soon' will mean.

The projects are being funded through £9 million of Government money from the Future High Streets Fund.

What are the schemes?

Fisherton Gateway aims to improve the road and public spaces along South Western Road and Fisherton Street.

They've been chosen for upgrades as they're the first streets that visitors to Salisbury generally use on their way into the city centre from the train station.

Meanwhile, the Salisbury Station Forecourt scheme will make the train station entrance more 'attractive and accessible' for passengers and residents.

We're told final designs will be shown to the public during an event, prior to the main construction works starting 'later in the year'.

The junction of South Western Road and Fisherton Street will be part of the Gateway project

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Transport, said:

“A lot of hard work has gone into developing these detailed designs since last year’s public consultation and I’m pleased we will soon be able to share these, together with some of the construction plans currently being worked on, with the public over the coming weeks.

“It’s exciting to know that after all the hard work both of these important schemes for Salisbury will be starting on site soon. These schemes support Wiltshire Council’s Business Plan and our aim of creating and supporting vibrant city centres that help the local economy and encourage the growth of business activity in a sustainable way.

"They will also help ensure Salisbury remains a thriving and vibrant tourist location where both residents and tourists can support local businesses, especially the fantastic independent and creative artisans which this modern medieval city is renowned for.”

We're told we'll get full details of the public events confirmed 'as soon as possible'.
