Salisbury police officers say they're aiming to pay a visit to every school in the city and surrounding area in the coming weeks.

Neighbourhood teams say they're checking that the safety of children walking to and from lessons is as safe as possible.

They're also dealing with parking issues if needed too.

In the last week or so, officers have already been to:

  • the Laverstock campus (St Joseph's, Wyvern St Edmund's and St Andrew's)
  • Alderbury Primary
  • the New Forest School, Landford
  • South Wilts Grammar
  • St Martin's Primary
  • Woodlands Primary
  • Bemerton St John Primary

Police say they've met 'lots of happy, smiley children' during their visits, with pupils asking questions of officers about their work.

We're told the visits will continue throughout the school year.
