Salisbury police officers have been making their presence known outside local schools this week.

They've been carrying out visible patrols outside Woodlands Primary, Harnham Infants and Juniors, St Marks Juniors and Wyndham Park Primary.

Officers began with work to enforce a 'Traffic Regulation Order' in the Folkestone Road, Saxon Road and Hollows Close areas of Harnham, on Tuesday morning (24th January).

That's in place to prevent cars using those roads at certain times for school pick-ups and drop-offs.

We're told that 'along with educating and encouraging the public, multiple fixed penalty tickets were issued'.

A number of drivers were spoken to in Harnham during an operation by officers during the morning school run

Concerns from local residents led to patrols at Woodlands Primary in Bemerton Heath on Thursday (26th January).

Cars are reportedly to have been mounting the pavement, and posing a risk to children's safety, as they try to turn around in a narrow road.

Officers gave 'words of advice' to drivers, encouraging them to park elsewhere.

Visits to St Marks and Wyndham Park have been carried out to tackle illegal parking.

They've been responding to reports of people stopping on double yellow lines, and using the zigzag area for school drop-offs and pick-ups.

That's punishable with the fixed penalty notice.

Some parents were given 'words of advice' about their parking.

Speed checks have also been carried out throughout the week.

PCSO Jonathan Rose said:

"After a recent rise in reports about speeding along High Road, Broad Chalke two Neighbourhood Policing Team Officers attended to carry out speed checks. During the course of an hour 12 cars were stopped and given warnings about their speed.

"Officers also traffic speed checks on Castle Road Salisbury and in Southampton Road, Alderbury where 2 drivers were given a warning about their speed, especially with the weather conditions.

"Due to the cold, icy and foggy weather we're urging people to drive appropriately. We will be out being proactive to check people are driving sensibly and hopefully prevent any accidents."
