All four Salisbury Cathedral peregrine chicks hatched
The final egg cracked in the early hours of this morning (1st May)
Another day, another peregrine falcon chick at Salisbury Cathedral - and the family in the nesting box is complete.
The fourth egg hatched at around 2.40am today (Wednesday 1st May).
The chick's siblings all arrived between Sunday and yesterday - one per day.
Salisbury Cathedral has described the breeding season as 'very successful', following on from three chicks hatching last year.
In contrast, the peregrines nesting at Winchester Cathedral haven't had any chicks this year, with the mother throwing away all the eggs in the last few days.
The RSPB South Wilts group has shared a picture of the whole peregrine family, highlighting the size difference between the mum and dad falcons.
In a post on their social media, they said:
"She looks like she's at the "big" end for females (07-1.5 kg) and he's at the "small" end for males (0.3-1.0 kg). Females pair up with a male that's smaller than themselves."
The chicks will now keep feeding to build their strength before fledging over the summer.
