Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust secures £366,000 for solar panel installation
Investment aims to cut energy costs and promote sustainability across the Trust
Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has received £366,000 in funding through the Great British Energy Solar Scheme, providing a significant boost to its effort to reduce energy costs and promote sustainability.
The funding will be used to install solar panels across selected rooftops within the Trust. Once operational, this initiative is expected to generate clean electricity, helping the Trust save approximately £45,000 annually. This aligns with the NHS’s commitment to achieving Net Zero goals.
Supporting green initiatives in healthcare
Thomas Sneddon, Deputy Head of Estates, noted the importance of the scheme:
“This funding empowers us to significantly build on our existing, successful solar generation. It is a clear 'win-win' situation that benefits the Trust, our patients and the wider environment.”
Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust joins a growing number of healthcare providers adopting renewable energy technologies as part of efforts to tackle rising energy costs.
Across the UK, the Great British Energy Solar Scheme now supports 34 NHS trusts and spans around 260 sites to address challenges posed by escalating bills, which have nearly doubled since 2019.
Looking ahead to a sustainable future
The new solar panels form part of wider initiatives being undertaken in the health sector to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources and contribute towards environmental goals.
It is part of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust’s long-term strategy to reduce operational costs while supporting the NHS Net Zero agenda.
