Salisbury is welcoming two more independent coffee shops.

The Salisbury Orangery begin trading at the weekend in the building formerly occupied by the Compleat Artist on Crane Street.

The specialist art shop closed in 2015 after more than 60 years and the premises have been empty since then.

The Salisbury Orangery coffee is open 7 days a week from 9am until 4pm although at present can only serve outdoors due to the current coronavirus restrictions.

The family run company have two branches in Winchester.

Manager Callum is hoping the coffee shop brings some positivity to the after a difficult time:

"The first weekend was amazing, the response from the public has been brilliant, everyone has been really welcoming, they are all really happy to see a new speciality shop.

"It has been busier than what we thought it was going to be. Footfall will be really good here as we're a little bit off the beaten track and close the Cathedral as well, it's really exciting."

There is a bit of a trend with The Orangery opening speciality coffee shops in art shops as the Winchester branch was the same.

Meanwhile Sonder Coffee opens today (13th April) in the High Street.

It's located in the premises formerly occupied by the India Shop which closed in October.

Robin McGowan, Chief Executive at Salisbury BID, said:

“It is such positive news as new business owners continue to choose Salisbury as their base, especially as we see new independent hospitality businesses open up through these challenging times and show that entrepreneurial spirit. We very much look forward to supporting and promoting them, especially as we see the lockdown restrictions easing in these coming months."
