Could you be a Flood Warden for Salisbury?

The City Council's looking to boost their volunteer numbers

Salisbury currently has 22 Flood Wardens, supported by the City Council, but they'd like more people to join the ranks.

With our city having been built so close to watermeadows and having five rivers flowing through, it's a vital job to protect homes and businesses.

The role of a warden is about passing on information about flooding incidents to authorities, so the response can be properly managed.

WHAT DOES A FLOOD WARDEN DO?

The volunteers have important roles before, during and after any flooding incidents in Salisbury. They include:

  • Identifying properties at risk of flooding and any vulnerable individuals
  • Attend flood plan training and exercises
  • Relay information to the local community in the event of a flood
  • Provide emergency services with local knowledge and information
  • Submit information about flooding to the relevant authorities
Flood wardens for Salisbury will help authorities in situations like the flooding in Churchill Gardens this time last year

Cllr Derek Brown OBE, who is the Flood Co-ordinator for Salisbury, said:

"This is a great opportunity for residents of Salisbury to be the eyes and ears of their community. Joining over 20 other Flood Wardens, they will provide a valuable link between the local community, emergency services and Wiltshire Council."

You can can find out more about the role on the Salisbury City Council website.
