Salisbury fans are bracing themselves for a nail-biting afternoon as their side bids to stay in the National League South.

The Whites travel to Welling United for their final game of the season, knowing they need to match or better St Albans City's result to stay up.

They're currently above the relegation zone on goal difference.

St Albans travel to title-chasing Truro, as six teams head into the final day with a chance of being promoted as Champions, while three teams could join the already doomed Welling, Weymouth and Aveley in the drop zone.

Dave Drag from the Facebook group, Salisbury FC Supporters, told Greatest Hits Radio that there are some nerves among the fanbase.

"Clearly everyone wants us to stay up. There are nerves, but then if you look at the fixtures, it probably is just about still in our favour, so we are confident, but nervous confidence," he said.

Dave said he wouldn't swap Salisbury's game for St Albans', but told us it has been against the teams around them where the team has struggled this season.

He said: "It's a worry that we haven't been able to raise our game against the sides that potentially on paper, we should beat."

He added that the team needs to approach the match as a "one-off" fixture, despite a run of form that has seen the Whites slide closer and closer to the trap door.

Dave told us that the fans will be looking to club captain, Josh Sommerton, to lead the side to the result they need to secure safety.

He said: "He has been at the club since he was 17 and come all the way through the ranks from the Wessex League and this season has become captain. I think local lads playing for a side that he's played for years, in terms of leadership, the situation is made for a guy like Josh to kind of bring the rest of the players on."

Dave said the side can be proud of what they've achieved this season, regardless of the result, saying the team has carried itself really well.
