Pub calls Salisbury "most generous city in the UK" after Afghan refugee donations

They can't accept anymore items

A pub in Salisbury, which set up a donation point to help Afghan refugees, has called it "the most generous city in the U.K" after the amount of items given in.

The George and Dragon were asking for clothes and home items for those unfortunate families who are fleeing Afghanistan following the Taliban taking control of the country.

They first set up the Care 4 Calais donation point on August 25th, fast forward 13 days and they have already had a huge number of items handed in.

So much so, they have had to now to ask people to stop donating, as they are unable to store it anymore.

Due to Covid restrictions, items that are being delivered need to be quarantined for three days until they are rolled out.

In a post on Facebook, the pub said:

"Time is of the essence and we have had to make some decisions.

I’m sure you have all been keeping up with the news and have seen that already people in need have landed in the U.K. It is my understanding that they are now undergoing a 10 day quarantine period, and will then need the donations rolling in to them.

That means we are going to need to sort/clean/reorganise the donations, then place them in a 3 day quarantine period and then deliver them.

With regret, we are going to have to stop taking donations for the moment (except for those who we have spoken with already and organised drop of times for) and start phase 2 of this project.

Thank you so much for everyone that has been involved so far, and to those that are going to be helping going forward. We shall keep you all posted!"
