The long-awaited Salisbury MONOPOLY board is released this morning (Wednesday 14th October).

People are able to get their hands on the game from 10am, with stores like Waterstones, WHSmith, The Works and Ryman all selling it.

We also now have more detail on the 34 landmarks that will be featuring on the board.

What the board looks like

MAYFAIR OF SALISBURY

The most expensive and high profile square on the traditional MONOPOLY board is 'Mayfair'.

Unsurprisingly, Salisbury Cathedral will take the top spot in the new game.

Meanwhile, Old Sarum is taking another well known square.

It will replace 'Old Kent Road', the cheapest property on the original board.

The game's makers said there was a number of reasons behind the decision, including both being old and heavily visited.

Other landmarks to feature include obvious ones like Stonehenge, Arundells, Salisbury District Hospital, The Guildhall and Salisbury Museum.

However there are also some schools and businesses given spaces, like:

  • Berry Telecom
  • Pritchetts Butchers
  • Leehurst Swan School
  • Reeve the Baker
  • Salisbury Cathedral School

Meanwhile the four stations will be replaced by the city's parks; Victoria Gardens, Queen Elizabeth Gardens, The Greencroft and Churchill Gardens.

Three charities will feature on 'Community Chest' spaces, which are Stars Appeal, Salisbury Hospice Charity and Alabare.

It's makers have said the game is like a love letter to Salisbury, as it joins cities like Bath and Winchester in being recreated in the game.

George Shrimpton, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, says:

"The game features the great and good of the city - and is in effect A Love Letter to Salisbury. We have been wonderfully spoilt for choice putting the game together and would like to thank everyone who sent in suggestions when we went through a public consultation process."

As well as all the squares exclusively Salisbury, very many of the Chance and Community Chest cards are themed too, with one sending players to the famous MONOPOLY jail for spilling coffee over the Cathedral's copy of the Magna Carta.

The game is also available online from Amazon.
